Recycling Bin Contest
CONTEST!!!
(Judging will take place on Friday, December 11th)
Cypress Elementary and PTA are holding a recycling bin contest. To kick off the official start of our "Learning Green, Going Green" recycling program (paper, Coke Rewards, Capri-Suns, and etc.), we are holding the 1st Annual Recycling Bin Contest!! This is a great way to get your students excited about recycling.
There will be 1 winner PER grade level.
Here are a few minor rules for decorating your recycling bin.
1. DON'T cover the top of your recycling bin. (How else are you going to throw the paper in there?!!?)
2. DON'T CUT through the recycling bin.
3. DON'T write on the recycling bin itself.
4. Have fun, be creative.
Please speak with your students about what recycling means. Read a book. Share your own experience. (Do you use the "green bags" for the grocery store? Show them these.) Please encourage your students to recycle. I will be sending students around to different classes to educate your students about the importance of recycling. Please give them about 5 to 10 minutes to share their speech with your students.
I appreciate your time and help. May the best recycling bin win!!!

Smencils
GET YOUR SMENCILS!
Don't forget that 4th grade teachers are selling Smencils to help raise money for their field trip!! They cost $1.00 and smell real great!
These pencils are made from recycled newspapers. How cool is it that we can help our environment by reusing old newspaper to help our students go on a field trip.
Wonderful idea teachers!

Elmer's Glue Crew Collection Box
Today we made our Elmer's Glue Crew boxes. The students first planned out how they were going to decorate the box. The students then took construction and (Elmer's) glue to decorate the boxes. The last thing we did was put tape around it so it was nice and sturdy. Enjoy our pictures. Don't forget to drop off your empty glue sticks and bottles (any brand) to my classroom, Room 113.

Elmer's Glue Crew
We all know how much glue can be used throughout the school year. Wouldn't it be a GREAT idea to recycle those used glue sticks and bottles instead of just throwing them away? Well, here is our chance to see how many glue sticks and bottles we can recycle. Teachers, when your students are finished using up their glue sticks and bottles, please drop them off in my classroom, Room 113. We have a box labeled with Elmer's Glue Crew on it. Our school goal is to collect 300 bottles and sticks. Every month we will be keeping a count of how many we collect for that month. This recycling program will be starting up on Monday, October 19th. Remember, we are Learning Green, Going Green!
